Treasure

Spy: P. Hankin

Japanese developer “Treasure” has been around for ever. Not all their games get a western release, but they are highly regarded throughout the industry. Most famous for scrolling shooters, they have produced some of the best examples of that genre: Radiant Silvergun reveals the height of their genius, but Bangai-o, Ikaruga and recently Gradius V are each awesomely good. Stretch Panic (aka Freak Out) was a truly hallucinogenic non-shooting experience, and Wario World showed their more mainstream capabilities. They have worked on many platforms: RSG and Ikaruga were both originally arcade machines, but their focus is now on GameCube and PS2. In a conservative market, Treasure have shown that quirkyness, originality and old-school learning curves can still sell games.
